On Sunday, the Granite City Oilers hosted the Scottish National Baseball League leaders, the Glasgow Comets.
The Oilers took the lead late in the game in a 12-8 victory over the Comets. The game was tied at six with Oilers batting in the bottom of the fifth inning when Stephen Evans drew a bases loaded walk, scoring the go ahead run.
Bats blistered as the Granite City Oilers collected 13 hits against the Comets seven hits in this high-scoring game.
The Comets opened up scoring in the first inning when catcher Louis Maguire drew a walk, scoring a run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Oilers would score three runs on two hits to tie things up at six runs each.
Lass Kobani pitched the Oilers to victory. He would surrender six runs on four hits over five innings, striking out four. Federico Gambedotti threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Gambedotti recorded the last six out to earn the save for the Oilers.
Santino De Rosa started the game for the Comets on the mound, surrendering six runs on nine hits over four innings, and striking out seven. However, it was Albert Rodriguez who would take the loss of the Comets.
The Granite City Oilers tallied 13 hits on the day. David Johnson, Connor Smith, Federico Gambedotti, Jared Thomley, and Lass Kobani each had multiple hits for the Oilers. Johnson led the way with going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Jason Stott went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Comets in hits. Danny Quinn led Glasgow with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases. The Comets did not commit a single error in the field.
With the victory, the Oilers move to 3-2 on the season, and the Comets move to 4-1.
The Granite City Oilers (3-2) host the Glasgow Galaxy (1-4) on July 25th at George W. Chalmers Field.
The Glasgow Comets (4-1) host the Edinburgh Cannons (3-2) on July 25th at Tollcross Park in Glasgow.
