On January 30th, 2021, the Aberdeen Baseball Club conducted its’ Annual General Meeting (AGM). The agenda for the meeting consisted of the discussing the issues of the previous year, voting and swearing in of the next club committee members, and establish a plan for the upcoming year/season.
First order of business was to discuss issues from the previous year. With no season having taken place, and no membership fees taken due to the global pandemic, there were no major changes to the club accounts from the previous year.
Youth baseball was able to go forward with some training in the late fall/early winter. They were supplied youth team shirts by Funky Panther. Youth baseball continues to have steady membership. Casey Mackenzie, Aberdeen Baseball Club, and Baseball Scotland, Youth Coordinator was awarded the BaseballSoftball UK (BSUK) Youth Baseball Coach of the Year award for her continued dedication to the growth of youth baseball. The Youth programme has also received a potential sponsorship that would supply field materials such as clay and clay mixtures for the pitchers mound, home plate area, and bases.
Plans for the building of the backstop are still going forward. The paperwork for planning permission has been completed, the club now must come up with the fee to submit the application for approval by the Aberdeen City Council.
Next the new club committee was voted into office. All nominees for each position ran unopposed and were confirmed by unanimous decision. Club President is Stephen Evans, VP/Youth Officer is Casey Mackenzie, Treasurer is Nicholas Care, Secretary is Jared Thomley, Fundraising Officer is Connor Smith, Social Media Officer is Laurence Cameron, and University Representative is Owen Duffus (University of Aberdeen Baseball Club President). Coaches for the Aberdeen Express and Granite City Oilers is Jared Thomley and Federeico Gambedotti, Connor Smith, and Laurence Cameron.
With the uncertainty of the upcoming season, the plans for the upcoming season/year are still being developed. The club will continue to pursue the building of the backstop. Club membership fees will again be on hold until more information regarding the potential of a season has come to light.
Recruiting for the club will continue as the club is always open to new members of all persons interested in joining, regardless of age, gender, or experience.
